Drinkline Scotland is a free, confidential helpline specifically designed to provide advice and support for anyone concerned about their own or someone else’s drinking, including families of alcoholics. Here’s what Drinkline Scotland does for families affected by alcoholism:

Drinkline Scotland offers a safe space for family members to discuss their concerns about a loved one’s alcohol use. The helpline provides non-judgmental advice to help families understand the impact of alcoholism and navigate their challenges. It operates Monday to Friday from 9am to 9pm and Saturday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm at 0800 731 4314. A webchat service is also available during these hours.

The helpline provides information about alcohol dependency, its effects on individuals and families, and strategies for coping. This can help families better understand the condition and how it affects their loved one’s behavior.

Drinkline Scotland connects families to local alcohol support services, counseling, or family support groups across Scotland. This includes referrals to organizations like Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD), Al-Anon Family Groups, or other community resources for ongoing support.

If a family member feels the situation cannot wait, Drinkline can advise on immediate steps, such as contacting emergency services (999), Police Scotland (101), or other crisis support like the Samaritans (116 123) for urgent help.

For more information on all the services Drinkline Scotland provide you can contact them directly via their helpline, email, or website
