The Glasgow Council on Alcohol (GCA) is a Scottish charity that provides a range of services to support individuals and families affected by alcohol misuse in Glasgow and surrounding areas, including East Dunbartonshire. For families of alcoholics, GCA offers the following:

GCA provides one-to-one counselling for family members, partners, and friends affected by someone else’s alcohol use. This service is available face-to-face (in locations like Glasgow City Centre, East End, Yoker, Drumchapel, and East Dunbartonshire), by telephone, or via Zoom, six days a week and four evenings a week. Counselling offers a safe space to discuss the emotional and practical impacts of a loved one’s drinking, helping families cope with stress, guilt, or isolation.

GCA offers drop-in group sessions, such as “Feel Good Fridays,” held on Friday afternoons, where families and individuals can connect with others in similar situations. These sessions aim to build community, reduce stigma, and provide peer support for those affected by alcohol misuse, fostering a sense of connection and shared experience.

GCA’s Women’s Service supports women affected by alcohol misuse, including survivors of abuse, which may be relevant for family members impacted by alcohol-related domestic issues. This service emphasizes empowerment and provides tailored support.

GCA adopts a trauma-informed, person-centered approach, offering support that considers the broader impact of alcohol misuse on families, including mental health and social challenges. They also provide tailored support for specific groups, such as the LGBTQ+ community, which may be relevant for diverse family structures.
