Alcohol treatment

Treatment is residential: patients stay at the hospital while taking part in a structured programme. Depending on assessed needs, this can include medically supervised detoxification, individual therapy and group therapy.

The clinical team assesses suitability before admission, including physical and mental health and withdrawal needs. Contact admissions to discuss the programme and likely length of stay.

The Twelve Step approach

Castle Craig uses Twelve Step therapy as part of its abstinence-based treatment programme, alongside medical care and psychological therapies.

The approach involves recognising addiction, accepting support, examining behaviour, making amends where appropriate and developing ways to maintain recovery. Ask the team how the Steps are used during treatment and after discharge.

Who pays for treatment?

Castle Craig is a private provider, but treatment is not restricted to people paying personally. Possible funding routes include self-payment, approved private medical insurance and publicly funded placements.

Private payment and insurance

Ask admissions for a written explanation of the proposed treatment, total fees and what is included. If using insurance, confirm authorisation and any limits with your insurer before agreeing to treatment.

Public funding

Castle Craig accepts publicly funded referrals when funding has been approved. In Scotland, ask your local alcohol and drug service about assessment and the residential rehabilitation funding pathway in your area.

Funding and a place at a particular hospital are not automatic. Your local team and Castle Craig need to confirm the arrangements before admission.

Support after discharge

Castle Craig offers continuing care and alumni activities. Ask what follow-up support is recommended, what your funding covers and whether any continuing care has an additional cost.
