Get medical advice now

If you drink heavily every day, feel shaky or ill without alcohol, or have had withdrawal before, do not suddenly stop or sharply reduce your drinking without medical advice.

Contact your GP and ask for urgent advice about alcohol withdrawal. If your GP is closed and you need urgent help, call NHS 24 on 111.

Call NHS 24 — 111

Tell them when you last drank, what symptoms you have, and about any previous withdrawal seizures or delirium tremens. You do not need exact figures before calling.

Do not try to control withdrawal by guessing how much alcohol to drink.

I need someone with me while I get help

Ask someone you trust to stay with you or stay on the phone while you contact medical help.

AA can offer someone to talk to. They cannot assess or treat withdrawal.
