🧠The physiological damage caused by drinking alcohol result mostly from changes that alcohol makes on the brain. At first, the body will feel relaxed but as consumption increases vision, balance, and speech may be impaired.
❤️Continuing to drink will increase the heart rate, temperature, blood pressure and walking and talking normally may prove difficult.
🤢At this stage consuming more alcohol can result in vomiting, dizziness breathing difficulties and even unconsciousness. Alcoholics build up a tolerance to alcohol which means it takes more and more alcohol for them to feel the same effects as someone who drinks less frequently.
🍺🍺🍺As this tolerance builds up, the increased volume of alcohol required to get drunk, increases the damage.
😔Mood swings: Alcohol disrupts neurotransmitters like GABA and serotonin, leading to rapid shifts between euphoria, irritability, and sadness.
🤬Lowered inhibitions: This can result in impulsive decisions, emotional outbursts, or saying things one might regret.
😮💨Temporary relief: Some people feel relaxed or confident while drinking, but this is fleeting and often followed by a crash.
🫀Increased blood pressure puts a strain on the heart and can result in strokes, heart attacks and arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat which can be life-threatening).
💓Thinning and weakening of the heart muscle making it more difficult to pump blood effectively.
🧍The liver breaks down alcohol but can malfunction if the volume of alcohol is too much for it to process.
🤒The alcohol kills liver cells, causing inflammation, scarring and even cancer.
🤦♂️Kidney disease can be caused by dehydration, leading to high blood pressure. This can also pose a risk to the kidneys ability to filter the blood, regulate electrolytes and fluid and prevent kidney stones.
